NGE Post-Graduate Scholarship
NEW scholarship created in 2023 and will continue annually! Graduating seniors, who take the National German Exam and score in the 90th percentile or higher, can apply for the NGE Post-Graduate Scholarship for high school seniors. Eligible students should be 18-years-old or turning 18-years-old in Summer 2025, and are therefore not eligible for the AATG/PAD National German Exam Scholarship for summer study in Germany.
The scholarship will be awarded to seniors in the form of a cash prize to further their German studies after high school. Qualifying 17- and 18-year-olds (see requirements below) will be asked to submit an essay explaining how they plan to use German after graduation. This can be community college, employment, apprenticeships, military service, volunteer and service years, fellowships in the German-speaking world, or a traditional four-year degree.
Eligibility:
To be eligible to apply, students must score in the 90th percentile or higher on the National German Exam, be in high school, be 18-years-old or turning 18-years-old in Summer 2025, have a minimum of a B average, and have not previously won similar awards. In addition, students must be US citizens or permanent residents, not live in a household where regular conversation is in German, and never have been enrolled in a German immersion school outside the US.
Scholarship:
The scholarship will be awarded to seniors in the form of a cash prize to further their German studies. The number of cash prizes available, and the cash prize amounts, depends on the volume of seniors taking the National German Exam in any given year.
How to Apply:
Applications for this scholarship will open at the beginning of April.
Before beginning the application, students should ask their German teacher for their AATG chapter name and standard group percentile score (Score reports will be sent to teachers in early February). Students will submit a brief essay in German (10-20 sentences) answering these questions:
* Tell us a little about yourself, where you live, and your school.
* Why are you learning German?
* How do you plan to use German after high school?
Note: Students cannot save and return to the application – when you start, it must be filled in completely
